DPLA Described

Library Journal has an article about the Digital Public Library of America that will quickly bring you up to date on the progress they have made so far.  The DPLA is an effort to create “an open, distributed network of comprehensive online resources that would draw on the nation’s living heritage from libraries, universities, archives and museums in order to educate, inform, and empower everyone in current and future generations.”

It’s a huge scope and quite a challenge.  So far progress has been limited to just items in the public domain.  John Palfrey, author of the article, and I share the same hope for the DPLA to lead the way in legal access to copyrighted material.  I love the openness of the effort and will try not to sigh on the sidelines at the slowness of the progress.
