You are going to want to take a look at the results of a survey conducted by OverDrive and ALA’s Office for Information Technology Policy.  The survey was conducted during June and July of this year via OverDrive websites at public libraries.  More than 75,000 people responded.

Here are some of the results:

  • Patrons purchase an average of 3.2 books (both print and e-books) a month.
  • Public libraries are the primary source of book discovery for 57 percent of readers.
  • 35 percent of respondents have purchased a book after borrowing the title.
They all support the fact that libraries are a boon to publishers, serving as a place of discovery.  You can get your own pdf copy of the full survey results here.
